Grieving a heartbreak
I grew up hearing the phrase “life is all about learning from the difficult experiences.”
Let me be the first to tell you, I’ve had my fair share of difficult experiences that have turned into learning opportunities. They didn’t feel like a learning opportunity, and I for sure was not ready to hear how beneficial that hurt was to me… while I was going through it.
When you’re going through a heartbreak, it feels like your heart and soul is withering. You’re stuck trying to figure out if it was something that you did, or something you should’ve done in effort to keep it going. It’s like a whirlwind of emotions are swarming through your body demanding your attention for however long you allow them too.
Overcoming heartbreak is similar to grieving the loss of a loved one. Breaking up is another form of mourning and it deserves its due process all the same. We can’t put a time limit on it. We can’t rush the process. Sometimes, we feel better a month later…. for some; it can take years.
If you’re going through any type of heartbreak… give yourself grace. It’s my hope that one day, you too, will be able to say: I SURVIVED. In the meantime, allow yourself to feel what you are feeling and may you push through to the other side.
Peace & Love
